Detecting Phase Transition

Cluster Analysis helps identify where to look for transitions and Cluster Compare makes it easy to inspect RHEED patterns to pinpoint changes indicative of kinetic transitions

Material system:

  • CoSi

Challenge:

  • Complex patterns and low-contrast RHEED data (43 minute cool-down, data collection @ 10 fps -> 17 GB of video)

  • Transitions are subtle. Changes are difficult to process by eye.

Structural transition:

t = 01:30

t = 06:40

Cluster Analysis detected a distinct pattern change near the hypothesized transition

Cluster Compare automatically provides pattern information to differentiate a structural change
